REIS MAGOS FORT
Goa's oldest and most exciting fort housing exhibitions, the most captivating of which are the freedom fighters
Completely renovated in 2011 to give it back the configuration it had in 1707, the oldest fort in Goa is also the most exciting. The Sultan of Bijapur Adil Shah set up a military surveillance post there in 1493, then the Portuguese general Afonso de Albuquerque decided to build a fort there in 1510. Passed through several hands during the country's turbulent history, the fort even served as a prison during the struggle for Indian independence. Today it houses several exhibitions, including the captivating one on the freedom fighters of Goa.
