ST. PHILOMENA'S CATHEDRAL
Neo-Gothic cathedral built in 1836 with a crypt hiding the statue of the Blessed Virgin and catacomb under the high altar
This neo-Gothic cathedral is one of the highest in Asia. Built in 1936, it is inspired by the cathedral of Cologne in Germany and its spires rise to 53 meters. The architect, a Frenchman, brought in beautiful stained glass windows from France. They represent the birth of Christ, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Ascension to Heaven. The crypt contains a statue of St. Philomena, while one of her relics is kept in a catacomb under the main altar.
