The archaeological museum houses superb examples of sculpture, including the remarkable representations of Lajja-Gauri, a fertility cult once prevalent in the region. The museum opened in 1982. The museum consists of 6 galleries, including one under the porch and one in the open air. The vast majority of the sculptures represent Shiva, Ganesh or Vishnu. The staircase at the back of the museum leads through several fortified gates to various temples and ruins. The fort overlooks the rooftops of Badami and offers a splendid view of the surroundings.
