GULEDGUDDA
Small town built on the site of a lake that dried up in 1705, featuring numerous temples and a dargah (burial site) of Sayyad Basha
The small town of Guledgudda, whose name means "hill of emigrants" because of the emigrants who settled there near a hill, is located northeast of Badami. Singappa Naik Desai, an official of Ibrahim Adil Shah II of Bijapur, erected a fort here in 1580. The present city was built on the site of a lake that dried up in 1705. It was occupied by the Mughals and Tipu Sultan in 1787, followed by the Marathas and finally the British in 1826. There are several temples and a dargah (burial place) of Sayyad Basha.
