St. Mary’s Island
An island to visit, known for its basalt rocks, pretty coconut gardens, crystal-clear waters and silvery sands
In 1498, Vasco da Gama arrived on an archipelago, naming it EI Padron de Santa Maria, a name that was later changed to what we know today as Mary's Island. The island has beautiful coconut gardens, crystal clear waters and silver sands. It is also famous for its basalt rocks, which have crystallized into columns and split into hexagonal mosaics. From Malpe, Sainte-Marie Island is a good 20 minutes by boat. A lot of nautical activities are possible.
