BADSHAHI ASHURKHANA
Ashurkhana, one of Mohammed Quli Qutb Shahi's buildings in Hyderabad, famous for its glazed tile mosaics
This ashurkhana is one of Mohammed Quli Qutb Shahi's first buildings in Hyderabad. It was built between 1592 and 1596, near the river. As a repository of ancient banners and relics on display only during Moharrem, the Muslim month of mourning, it is among India's oldest imambara. Shiite Muslims from Hyderabad come here to worship during this month. The building is famous for its glazed tile mosaics, which create beautiful Persian-style patterns on the walls, and its wooden colonnade, a late addition.
