200-year-old maharajas' palace, a stone's throw from the Padmanabhaswamy temple, offering 20 of 80 rooms and an adjacent museum

Also called Kuthiramalika, this two hundred year old palace of the maharajas of Travancore is located a stone's throw from the Padmanabhaswamy temple. Out of 80 rooms, 20 can be visited. Its finely carved rosewood ceilings are magnificent. Objects evoke the spice trade with China and the West. There is also an ivory throne and large teak wood Kathakali dancers. The adjacent Chitrayalam Museum has some period photographs.
