FORT ANJENGO
Fort used by the British East India Company as an ammunition depot and warehouse for pepper, etc
Fort Anjengo was once the headquarters of the main garrison of the British East India Company. Completed in 1699, the fort served as an ammunition depot and a warehouse for pepper and other goods. Early 18th century graves are located nearby. The lighthouse offers a fantastic view of the surroundings. In the same area, Ponnumthuruthu Island (nicknamed Golden Island) is an island in the backwaters that can be reached by taking a fisherman's boat to the village of Nedunganda, to visit a Shiva temple.
