PAPANASAM BEACH
An excellent tourist spot and a major Hindu pilgrimage site, a beach for a refreshing dip or a dip in so-called sacred water
Also known as "Varkala Beach", it is the tourist spot par excellence but also a high place of Hindu pilgrimage. According to the legend, the sage Narada, also inventor of the first Indian stringed instrument named the vînâ, would have stayed on this beach and freed some people from their sins. This is how this place was named Papanasam which means "redemption of sins". A dip in this water is considered sacred and washes away the sins of a lifetime. A good excuse to cool off from a hot day!
