Built more than 1,000 years ago, it is one of the oldest mosques in India. It is located on the Meenachil river which surrounds the city like a silver band. Only men are allowed inside. It reflects the traditional Kerala style of architecture, with its finely carved woodwork. The village of Thazhathangady, has recently been declared a Heritage Zonebecause of its history and architectural beauty.
