Temple dedicated to Shiva, enlarged by the Cholas in the century and featuring numerous shrines dedicated to Murugan and Ganesh
This temple would date from the 7th or 8th century. It was considerably enlarged by the Cholas in the 11th century, then by the Vijayanagar rulers. Its large gopurams chamarrés are worth the blow of eye. This temple is dedicated to God Shiva, here in the form of Marundheeswarar, the healer of all ills. Devotees come to pray here to be cured of an illness. Other shrines are dedicated to Murugan and Ganesh, including one dedicated to 3 different forms of Ganesh who control the past, present and future.
