MADRAS HIGH COURT
2nd largest legal building in the world, built in 1862 and featuring an 1844 lighthouse and imposing domed towers
Built in 1862, it is considered the second largest legal building in the world, after the Court of London. The ochre-colored towers and the central tower are topped by domes covered with earthenware. Emblematic building of George Town, whose domes and corridors are a reminder of Indo-Saracenic architecture. The place is always crowded and active. Within the High Court compound was a lighthouse dating from 1844, which was replaced in 1971 by a modern one on Marina Beach.
