The headquarters of the Theosophical Society was founded to facilitate and encourage the study of comparative religion, philosophy and science. The society was founded by Madame Blavatsky and Colonel Olott in the United States and later moved to Adyar in 1882. In addition to places of worship of all denominations and the peaceful Garden of Remembrance, there is a library with a beautiful collection of rare oriental manuscripts on palm leaves and parchments. The big banyan tree which constitutes another attraction of this place.
