TIRUKALUKUNDRAM
Village has become an important pilgrimage center with a temple dedicated to Shiva and offering a beautiful view of the surrounding area from the summit
This village is an important pilgrimage center with its Vedagiriswarar temple, dedicated to Shiva and nicknamed the Eagle Temple. Legend has it that two eagles come every day at noon from Varanasi, India's holiest city. Located at the top of a hill, it requires 500 barefoot steps to reach. From up there, the view of the surrounding area is splendid and well worth the detour. The Rudrakodeeswarar temple is also worth a visit, as is a gigantic theertam (pool). To get there, take bus 508 from the Mahabalipuram bus stand (Rs. 15).
