Imposing Pallava temple dedicated to Parvati, incarnated as Kamakshi, the goddess of Love
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati in her incarnation as Kamakshi, the Goddess of Love. This temple with its imposing structure was probably built by the Pallava people, Kanchipuram being once the capital of their kingdom. Non-Hindus are not allowed in the central shrine, but the vimana (the gold-covered tower) can be seen from the outside. The birthday of the goddess is celebrated in October or November according to the lunar calendar.
