TRICHY ROCK FORT
Monument on the banks of the Cauvery, perched on a rocky massif 83 m above sea level, offering a panoramic view of the city
The city's highest point, this iconic complex is perched on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 83m. The two-storey Thayumanaswamy temple, dedicated to Shiva, is located halfway to the summit. This temple has a mystical atmosphere, with a hall of 100 pillars and a gold-covered vimana. On the south side of the massif are several rock-cut caves from the Pallava period. At the summit is the Ucchi Pillayar Temple, dedicated to Ganesh. The panoramic view over the city is well worth the effort of climbing the 400 steps!
