TRICHY ROCK STRONG
Monument on the banks of the Cauvery, perched on a rocky massif 83 m above sea level, offering a panoramic view of the city
The highest point of the city, the most emblematic monument of Trichy is perched on a rocky massif at an altitude of 83 m. The Thayumanaswamy temple, dedicated to Shiva, is located halfway to the top. The sanctuary is reserved for Hindus. The temple has a hall of 100 pillars and a vimana covered with gold. On the south side of the mountain are several rock-cut temples from the Pallava period. At the top is the Ucchi Pillayar Temple, dedicated to Ganesh. The panorama offered on the city is well worth the effort of climbing the 400 steps!
