JAMBUKESHWARAR TEMPLE
Temple dedicated to Shiva, 2 km from the Srirangam temple, containing 5 concentric walls, 7 gopurams and 1 Ekapada Trimurti sculpture
This temple of classical Dravidian architecture is dedicated to Shiva, it is located 2 km east of the great temple of Srirangam and has five concentric walls and seven gopuram. The legend says that an elephant once worshipped the god under the sacred tree of Jambu, hence the name Jambukeshwara. The main deity of the place is the lingam of Shiva, almost submerged by water from an underground spring in the sanctuary. The temple houses the unique sculpture of Ekapada Trimurti, an emanation of Shiva with Vishnu and Brahma emerging from him.
