This sacred temple is dedicated to Shiva of Uttarakosamangai where the god Mangaleshvara is worshipped and the goddess is Mangalesvari. This temple has inspired many Tamil devotional works. The Setupathi of Ramanathapuram have contributed magnificently to the development of these temples as well as many others in the region. The pride of the Sethupathi was to be the custodians of Sethu. This family is closely related to the temples of Rameswaram, Tiruppullani and Uttarakosamangai.
