PADMANABHAPURAM PALACE
Great palace of the Travancore kings, known for its splendid corridors and banqueting halls, and containing a museum of arms
The great palace of the Travancore kings is known for the splendor of its corridors and banquet halls. It is one of the largest wooden palaces in Asia. It was abandoned in 1790, in favor of the palace of Thiruvananthapuram. Some objects and the architectural style testify to the trade with China. The carved ceilings are particularly splendid. A museum also displays weapons and statues from various periods. The Travancore being a Kerala dynasty, the palace constitutes an enclave of Kerala in Tamil Nadu.
