LONDON 38
Clandestine detention and torture center presenting a memorial to the large numbers of people executed there.
The alleyways of the neighbourhood were home to a former clandestine DINA detention and torture centre under the Pinochet dictatorship. More than a thousand people passed through London 38 and many of them were executed. A memorial space was set up and on October 12, 2005, the site was declared a Historic Monument of Chile, at the request of Colectivo London 38. This building, which before the military coup d'état was a headquarters of the Chilean Socialist Party, was the first clandestine torture centre in the metropolitan region of Santiago.
