This classic Baroque church with two towers symbolizes the presence of Catholicism in Chile.
Declared a National Monument in 1951, this church has survived numerous earthquakes that devastated the city. The current construction began in 1745 and features a facade redesigned by architect Joaquín Toesca, who combined classical and baroque styles. The two towers were added in the 19th century. A major symbol of the Catholic presence in Chile, the church can be visited free of charge, especially during Masses, and photography is permitted.
