In 1896, a metal frame and a roof to cover the platforms were added. The metal structure was built by the Schneider factories in Le Creusot, according to the plans drawn by Gustave Eiffel. The construction was completed in 1900 and the building has kept this configuration until today. Today, the station is the starting point of the Santiago-Chillán line.
