Church built in 1613 with side aisles separated by Roman arches and the Virgen del Socorro brought to Chile
The history of this national monument dates back to the arrival of the Franciscans in Santiago in 1525. The first religious building was constructed in 1554, but following an earthquake in 1583, a new church was built in 1613 thanks to the support of King Philip II of Spain. At the end of the 18th century, the single nave of the church was joined to the side aisles, separated by Romanesque arches. Visible on the main altar, the Virgen del Socorro has great historical value since it was brought to Chile by Pedro de Valdivia.
