AVENIDA LIBERTADOR BERNARDO O'HIGGINS - ALAMEDA
This ten-kilometre avenue, extended to the east by Providencia Avenue, has had several names throughout history.
Stretching over ten kilometers, this avenue is the major artery of Santiago. It is extended to the east by Providencia Avenue. It has had several names throughout history, including Paseo la Canada, then Alameda de las Delicias. The latter name, Alameda, comes from the Arabic al-meidan (not from the Spanish alamos, meaning "poplars"), which literally means "public tree-lined promenade for the recreation and enjoyment of the inhabitants".
