Open since 1959, it's known as "Valdivia's big little café". The warm wooden interior is decorated with period mugs and crockery. Pies, walnut kuchen, empanadas, sandwiches and excellent draught beer are generously served. But the main attraction is the crudo, a typical German-Chilean dish consisting of "steak tartare with onions" - the house specialty! A historic landmark where service may be slow, but attention is always there. A Valdivia institution.
