IGLESIA SAN FRANCISCO
Located in Valdivia, this stone church was built in 1786 with a rather austere interior and a highly original facade.
It is a superb stone building, planted in a small garden adorned with palm trees, a little corner of paradise facing a weeping willow. The church was built in 1786 by the Franciscan order, just after the expulsion of the Jesuits. Several times the victim of fires (the last one in 2013), the church was restored and then destroyed and looted again following the Chilean social crisis at the end of 2019. Although the interior is rather austere, the façade is on the other hand very original, with a frontispiece whose undulations are reminiscent of Gaudi's extravagances.
