TANTAUCO PARK
Park featuring a native forest with a rainy climate, 7 trails and a path linking Caleta Inio to Lake Chaiguata.
On the outskirts of the village of Inío, a park has been created, administered by the Futuro Foundation under the aegis of the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme): a conservation initiative that protects priority ecosystems for biodiversity. The park covers over 110,000 hectares of peat bog landscapes, a native forest rich in cypress de las Guaitecas and siempre verde species (coihue, ulmo, repa, olivillo, canelo, mañio...). This vegetation benefits from a very rainy climate, which favours its exuberance. The park is divided into three sectors, all of which are ideal for day visits. For the more adventurous, there are long trails punctuated by refuges that go deep into the park: allow between 4 and 9 days for hiking.
Yaldad sector: Just 18 km from the junction of Route 5 South, you'll find the Yaldad Visitor Center, the Grand Mañío Abuelo, the Siempreverde, the Yaldad River Trail and the Darwin Trail.
Chaiguata sector: 38 km from the Ruta 5 Sur junction, 1 hour from Yaldad. On-site restaurant open in summer. There are two trails: Bosque Hundido (2 hrs.) and Los Ñirres (3 hrs.). You can also kayak on Lake Chaiguata.
Inio sector: An excursion to the most remote corner of Chiloé. By plane from Club Aéreo de Castro, you can reach Inío in 40 minutes. By boat, departures are twice a week and the trip takes around 5 hours.
