Southern trek, 53 km long for at least five days and four nights, amid breathtaking scenery.
For the ultimate thrill, take the Dientes de Navarino circuit, the southernmost trek in the world! This 53 km trek stretches over at least five days, with four nights in the wilderness, requiring between 6 and 8 hours' walking a day through breathtaking scenery. As you can see, this is an adventure for experienced hikers! The Dientes de Navarino, which translate as "teeth of Navarino", are spectacular rock formations sculpted by thousands of years of glacial erosion. These mountains are part of the Cordillera Darwin, a mountain range composed mainly of granite and metamorphic rocks. The peaks are often snow-capped, adding a unique charm to the landscape. Navarino Island, where the trek takes place, has a rich history, being inhabited by the indigenous Yagán and Selk'nam peoples before the arrival of Europeans. These early peoples had a close relationship with nature, using the island's resources for their daily sustenance. Known as sea nomads, they had a close relationship with the sea: they depended on fishing, seal hunting and shellfish gathering. During his visit, Darwin met some of the Yagán people: struck by their intelligence and adaptability, he recalls these interactions and describes their skills in his book "Voyage of a Naturalist Around the World". The archipelago was also the scene of important maritime events, including explorations and shipwrecks in the 19th century... Welcome to a land of legends! The trek is only accessible between December and early April, the ideal time to take advantage of milder weather conditions. During this period, the climate is relatively mild, with temperatures varying between 5°C and 15°C, although rapid changes can occur. Beware: the trails can be tough! We strongly advise you not to set off without a reliable GPS. For those who prefer a more supervised experience, the option of a local guide is highly recommended. Not only will this guarantee your safety, but you'll also benefit from their in-depth knowledge of the region. To prepare for your adventure, don't hesitate to consult local hotels or the tourist office, which can provide detailed information on trekking conditions and equipment requirements.
