OBSERVATORIO CANCANA
Cancana is a bit of the observatory of the end of the world by its geographical location, pressed into the meanders of valleys south of Vicuña, which we accessed via the D -485 and then D -487! It is at the entrance of the hamlet of Cochiguáz, on the left, that the dome and the observatory are marked from the main (and dusty) road. The proposed observation evenings are classical, with a first approach of the sky to the naked eye (constellations, positions of the main planets), explanations of celestial mechanics, and then observations under the dome with a 355 mm telescope in diameter. Light pollution is almost non-existent in this relatively remote mountainous area, needless to say, it is not possible to make a small slap in the face when discovering a particularly bright and contrasting Southern Milky Way at parties without Moon.
