BEACHES
Well-known seaside resort with incredibly clear water, strong waves and rocks to see at low tide
Caldera is a well known seaside resort as it is the best starting point for the surrounding beaches. Leave Calderilla, and head for Bahia Inglesa, 6 km from Caldera. The water is incredibly clear. To get there, take a taxi or a colectivo. Further south, you can reach completely untouched beaches. Just follow the tracks left by your predecessors, which will lead you, through plains and dunes, to hidden beaches such as Chorrillos (20 km from Caldera), a stretch of golden sand overlooking an intensely blue bay (idyllic for camping for a few days, lunar landscapes around conducive to wandering), or Bahía Cisne. Even further south, towards Puerto Viejo or Bahía Salado, there is no shortage of magnificent little spots, such as Playa Virgen, with waters so beautiful that they remind you of Polynesia. Towards the north and Chañaral, and if you have a motorized vehicle, you can make stops from beach to beach: 11 km from Caldera first, in a cove stretching over a few kilometers (Rodillo and Ramada beaches). The waves are stronger there than elsewhere. Around km 12, we arrive at a nature sanctuary where the rocks called Granito Orbicular stand. These are rock formations composed mainly of biotite and quartz, whose particularity is to have this orbicular (or round) shape that gives them their name. As these rocks are on the beach, it is easier to observe them at low tide.
