CARNAVAL DE IQUIQUE

A colorful carnival where you can discover the typical dances of the north of the country. A great way to have fun to the rhythm of Andean folklore!
Also called "Jallalla Festejañani", this colorful carnival honors the Andean traditions of the region. One discovers in particular the local dances like the tinku (pre-Inca ritual), the diablada (where the dancers are disguised as devils, condors or angels) and the caporal, a rather sporting dance. The inhabitants and the streets are dressed in an extravagant way. It is also an opportunity for the Andean peoples and their Bolivian neighbours to come down from the high altiplanic spheres and add sparkle to the festival with their beautiful traditional costumes.
