Oficina located in Humberstone with a "Casa de la Administracion" to view a collection of historical objects.
This oficina, the oldest in Chile, operated between 1872 and 1960. It is one of the three oficinas, along with Humberstone and Chacabuco, near Antofagasta, that has not been completely dismantled. This is an opportunity to see the process of manufacturing sodium nitrate, used for agriculture in Europe and the United States in the mid-20th century. Don't miss the imposing "Maquina", where you can see part of the saltpeter production process, and the "Casa de la Administracion" where a curious collection of historical objects is on display.
