RANO KAU VOLCANO
This volcanic cone, more than 1.6 km in diameter and almost 200 m deep, is one of the volcanic cones that gave rise to the island
Rano Kau is one of the three main volcanic cones that gave birth to the island. After a short ascent or by following the track by car, we arrive at the edge of the crater which reveals its magnificent bottom filled by a lake covered by the reeds of totora. The green-blue shades are enchanting and the crater under the sun forms a jewel case for this liquid jewel. The volcano is more than 1.6 km in diameter and nearly 200 m deep. The ceremonial village of Orongo, famous for its birdman cult, is also located here.
