MARCHÉ EN FER (MARCHÉ VALLIÈRES)
One of the two pavilions of the market is devoted to crafts. Edifiés under the presidency of Ippolito, like the market in Cape Town, they recall the Halles Halles. They are we of a kind of minaret, perhaps because the whole was not originally intended for Haiti. The space reserved for crafts does not count for masterpieces. The paintings rival ugliness with those of the customs district. The wood sculptures are more acceptable and the ménager allows to buy a few gifts without getting ruined. The haggling is rigorous. In the stalls of Messrs. Cadet and Levecque, traditional musical instruments will be found: vaccines, drums, assotors. A little further, Mrs Casséus and Mr Barra offer a very large choice of objects linked to voodoo cult: Congo package, bossou marassa, bottle and pearled carpets to loas weapons, etc.
