RIDGE-HIGH
This rectangular fortification became the symbol of indigenous resistance in the face of the Leclerc expedition. From 11 to 24 March 1802, the soldiers of this little fort fought valiantly against the French troops in which Petionville was still fighting.
Dessalines, their leader, had been able to galvanize his men: " I do not want to keep with me only brave ones, we will be attacked this morning. that those who want to regain the slaves of the French come out of the front, and that around me those who want to die in free men '. And, in case his harangue was insufficient, he added: " If the French enter this chamber, I will all make you jump! '. The heroic defeat of Crete-à-Pierrot will be followed by the submission of All Louverture. Dessalines will resume shortly after the fight to lead his troops to victory with the same courage.
