IN EDMUND
Victor Edmund, a Canadian citizen, fell in love with the Turtle and decided to develop tourism there. He was not the first to have had this idea since some years ago investors had secured a concession in the west of the island. They built an airstrip as well as a road - which still allows to cross much of the Turtle - but their project did not follow. Mr. Edmund offers a four-day discovery package that has the advantage of directly leading you to the Turtle from Port-au-Prince.
It takes at least 6 hours to get to Saint-Louis-du-Nord where boarding takes place. Count an hour of passing on the Rose-Dana, Haitian sailboat of twenty-nine feet equipped with two motors. We arrive at the Fig where the accommodation is insured throughout the stay. The house, which has three rooms for the moment, is simple but offers a minimum of comfort. Generators allow you to have current because there are no electricity or telephone at the Turtle, even water is a rare commodity. Meals are taken on the shore, under a choucoune.
Activities vary depending on the tastes of visitors: diving and windsurfing, relax on Sapodilla beach; hiking up to the cliffs of the North Coast, to the caves of the region of Palmistes (the famous Church of the Church); west-west excursion - the island has only about ten; walk on colonial sites in the Lower Earth area: remains of the houses of Bertrand d'Ogeron, Levasseur, lime oven, cannons, etc.
Those who wish to go to the Turtle by their own means can still accommodate Mr. Edmund within the limits of the available places (rooms are under construction). They can also embark on Port de Paix, preferably on Monday and Thursday.
