CATHEDRAL OF ST. PHILIPPE AND ST. JACQUES
Imposing cathedral with white and yellow walls destroyed on September 18, 1896 by a fire that ravaged the entire city
The imposing cathedral with its white and yellow walls is no more. Inaugurated in 1864, it was destroyed on September 18, 1896 by a fire that ravaged the entire city, reconstruction work resumed immediately after the disaster, and from 1916 to 1940 many extensions were added. In 2010, the earthquake did not spare it and its reconstruction was considered before it was decided to raze the ruins to rebuild a new building, which is still pending.
