MARBLE PALACE

Located on a hill in the commune of Ngaliema, in the Ma Campagne district, the Marble Palace was designed by the Congolese architect Tala-Ngai in the 1970s for the director of the Central Bank, before being requisitioned by Mobutu to receive the Republic's distinguished guests such as Kissinger and Mandela. It was built with marble imported from Italy. In 1997, Laurent-Désiré Kabila made it his residence, and it is there that he was assassinated on January 16, 2001. The Kabila family occupied it until 2019. It is not accessible to the public.
