PEOPLE'S PALACE

Located in the commune of Lingwala, the People's Palace was commissioned by Mobutu from China during his visit to Beijing in 1973, and built between 1975 and 1979. It was inspired by the People's Assembly Palace in Beijing: a monumental building in the shape of a three-level parallelepiped. Initially dedicated to cultural events, in 1992 it hosted the Sovereign National Conference and then became the seat of Parliament, the temple of Congolese politics. You can visit it by invitation from a member of staff or during plenary sessions.
