Announced on June 30, 1966 by Mobutu, the foundation stone was laid in 1967 by Nyerere and construction began in 1969 and was completed in 1974. The Limete interchange is a tower of almost 210 meters, composed of four pillars surmounted by cylindrical forms covered with copper. Repeatedly painted and photographed, the tower is the symbol of the city of Kinshasa. It also houses the mausoleum of Patrice Lumumba, the Congolese national hero. The site is managed by the Museum of Contemporary Arts and Multimedia. Exhibitions are organized there.
