ACADEMY OF ARTS

Founded in 1933 in Matadi, the Academy today teaches the plastic and graphic arts. Several renowned Congolese sculptors and painters have graduated from the school, and are responsible for the country's main monuments, as well as Congolese paintings and comic strips. It is also a place for permanent outdoor exhibitions of numerous works, a showroom and sales room open daily to the public, and a museum. Temporary exhibitions are also organized. The site is also home to the Institut d'Architecture et d'Urbanisme.
