The Centre Æquatoria is an Africanist cultural research center specialized in the study of the languages, cultures and history of sub-Saharan Africa (mainly the Mongo). It includes a library and archives. It was founded in 1937 with the Africanist journal Æquatoria by two Belgian missionaries of the Sacred Heart. Since 1987, this cultural heritage has been housed at the Center, accessible to the public. It is an impressive group of buildings including the church built in 1937.
