Historically, it was the SAPEC hotel (Société Anonyme des Plantations et Entreprises Coloniales) which became the Hôtel des Chutes in 1950, and for which a similar name already existed just across the street. With the Congo Palace, it is the other emblematic establishment of the colonial era, both remained in the state of remains and squatted by families. It was bought in 2016 by President Joseph Kabila, who was supposed to completely rehabilitate it while maintaining the vintage feel of the place. But here we are, another broken promise!
