In 1917 there were only 150 Greeks living in the city and the surrounding area. Most arrived in the late 1920s and after World War II. Lubumbashi has always been an important transportation and trade center and the Greeks have massively integrated these sectors. The landscapes and lakes reminded them of the mother country. The community numbered up to 3,500 people. As is often the case in community circles, and especially in Greek circles, there are sports facilities, children's games and a good restaurant.
