THE GREEN LAKE

15 km from Goma on the road to Sake, the Green Lake is a crater lake that deserves a stop. The environment is bucolic. The lake was created by the eruption of Nyiragongo before the 1800's. The greenish water of this lake is connected underground with Lake Kivu. It is the subject of many legends where snakes are said to be at grips with the corpses of Mobutu's opponents, who are said to lie in great numbers... This does not prevent children from bathing there nor mothers from doing their laundry. This is an opportunity to join the others below the crater.
