MAZRA CLUB
A protected ecological site, a leisure and recreation area where you can observe the functioning of the mangrove and its ecosystem.
The Mazra Club is a unique place where you can enjoy a peaceful stroll between the mangrove swamps and the ocean. It all began when Dr Kitoko, an enthusiastic and enterprising doctor, was looking for a plot of land away from the main roads. The plot was isolated from the sea by a mangrove swamp, the last remaining piece of land in the city. The doctor, having built a track to access his house under construction, decides, against everyone's advice, to buy the land on which the mangrove stands too, as the site attracts him. A waste of money, he is told. But he persisted and began to develop the site, cleaning it first of all, as the mangroves held back the countless plastic bags that swarmed and polluted the big Congolese cities. Then, by domesticating and draining the mangrove, he has turned it into a semi-controlled space. A few pontoons run along it, followed by platforms for observing the life of this very special ecosystem. In the past, it was possible to have lunch here under straw huts scattered throughout the mangrove, but when we visited, the restaurant had been on stand-by for some time. However, it can be fun to come and discover this protected ecological site and observe the workings of the mangrove and its ecosystem. A beautiful viewpoint over Pointe-Noire, from which you can see the port with its many cranes and boats, the bell tower of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption and the silhouettes of the Pointe-Noire lighthouse and port towers.
