CRAFT VILLAGE
A former craftsmen's village featuring painters, sculptors, basket-makers and others can be found in Pointe-Noire.
The artisans' village has disappeared in favour of black gold and the construction of Pointe-Noire's new port. With no way of finding a new home, artists move around as opportunities arise: at the time of our visit, painters were exhibiting in front of the central post office, and other artists in front of the Bon Bœuf butcher's shop. If you find one of them, he'll be able to tell you where the other artisans are. As in all African craft markets, you'll have to negotiate to get the best price. Let yourself be taken in!
