LOANGO CATHOLIC MISSION

Ma-Loango Catholic Mission, said to be the first mission in the Congo, is a bucolic setting with a stone altar outside.
Congo's first Catholic mission celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2023. The wooden chapel, which had been destroyed, was replaced in 1978 by a hard-built one. Outside, however, a charming stone altar, immersed in the bush, enables the sole priest to hold open-air masses when the influx of pilgrims is too great. In this discreet, bucolic space, conducive to reflection, are also scattered the graves of the first French missionaries.
