Waterton Historic Site housing the Rocky Mountain Development Company, the first well of John Lineham's company.
The first oil seeps were discovered in 1889 in southern Alberta. Before becoming black gold, petroleum is used as a lubricant and medicine. It will take about ten years for the first concessions to settle in the region and develop the industry. John Lineham founded the Rocky Mountain Development Company and this is the first well from his company that can still be seen at Waterton Historic Site.
