FORT WHOOP-UP
This American-built fort is the main hangout for liquor smugglers in southern Alberta.
Built by Americans from the state of Montana in 1869, it was then the most notorious fort and the main hideout for liquor traffickers in southern Alberta. Order will be restored with the construction of Fort MacLeod and Fort Calgary. Numerous festivities are organized at the beginning of July (parades, rodeos, etc.) and visits led by costumed guides enliven the place and bring back memories of the past throughout the year. The Fort is now managed by The Galt Museum & Archives.
